NADIA MUNA GIL studied finance at MIT and spent six years on Wall Street before her fascination with cheese pulled her into an entirely new career.
Nadia’s culinary career started at the French Culinary Institute in New York, where she completed the La Technique program. She went on to take classes in wine and cheese, and enrolled in the affineur apprenticeship program at the Artisanal Premium Cheese Center. Under the tutelage of cheese experts like Max McCalman, Daphne Zepos, Waldemar Albrecht-Luna and Alex Garcia, Nadia studied all aspects of affinage (cheese maturing), cheese service, and cheese and wine pairing.
Nadia worked as Fromager at the Artisanal Bistro & Fromagerie, and soon realized her passion was in teaching. She traveled to study cheesmaking and to observe retail store dynamics and customer reactions to cheese. Building on a weekly distribution list where she answers people’s questions about cheese, Nadia put together the Cheesaholics Anonymous blog.
Nadia then teamed up with Fromager Waldemar Albrecht-Luna to create the company Waldemar and Nadia. Waldemar and Nadia throw cheese and wine events that are both educational and entertaining, from private home tastings to restaurant and corporate events. They have amassed an army of cheese devotees that have been touched by their enthusiasm and knowledge.
Nadia lives in New York with her husband Cris. She believes that there is a cheese for everyone, and that it is a matter of falling in love once and getting hooked. This is one addiction you can feed.
